Five weeks to go
T minus 5 weeks and counting...
I still need to get a wetsuit for the swim, but I have not decided on what kind yet. If anyone has any ideas of manufacturer, I'm all ears.
I got a new pair of kicks last week... Asics GT 2110. They

I will need to break in before the race. I think about 50 miles should do the trick... I just checked a few sites and they suggest 75 - 100 miles. Also, spend the first week walking in them in the house before you even take them on a run. Start with a few short runs first.
Remember to replace shoes after 350 - 500 miles and wear appropriate socks when running. At least that is what the website stated.
What about if one does not wear socks?

Got news for you. . . . there isn't a shoe around that will help your knees. The amount of running you do is really hard on them. If you could run on a nice high school track. . . it would help because around here they are pretty high tech. It would help the stress on your knees. I suspicion that you run on the road. Not much give there. Oh. . . and need I remind you . . . the knee issues. . . only get worse as you age. . . I am pretty much an expert on messed up knees at 46.
Ciao
Yep I agree with you Sicilian... I try to run on asphalt as much as possible. I can’t bear to run around in a circle and would rather not run at all. I run on a treadmill during the winter on out of necessity.
I'm just wishful thinking that my knees will hold out and not pain me next month.
